What started as one little Tic Tac costume DIY quickly snowballed—kind of like when you open a pack “just for one” and suddenly half the container is gone.
I planned to only make a Freshmints Tic Tac costume, but once I saw how fun it looked, I just had to add Orange, Strawberry Mix, and Fruit Adventure.
Because why stop at minty fresh when you can have a whole rainbow?

What You’ll Need to Make a Tic Tac Costume
Materials and Tools List:

- Cardboard shipping box (Amazon box works great)
- Clear storage bag matching your box width (18″ for women, 24″ for men) – I found the perfect clear storage bags on Amazon, but you could rummage your local appliance store’s dumpster for clear bags too.
- 260 size balloons (the long animal baloon-twisting kind):
- White for Freshmints
- Orange for Orange
- Pink or Pink and White for Strawberry Mix
- Assorted colors for Fruit Adventure
- Balloon hand pump
- Clear packaging tape
- White paper to wrap the box (The larger the better)
- Free printable Tic Tac logos (Freshmints, Orange, Strawberry Mix, Fruit Adventure) printed on tabloid paper – Sign up to my newsletter to get an email with the link to the free template.
- Glue dots or craft glue
- Scissors and craft knife/box cutter
- Ruler/straight edge and marker
How to Make a Tic Tac Costume

Start with the box
Before you grab the box cutter, measure yourself to figure out how deep the box needs to be. (Let’s be honest—this may vary depending on how “developed” you are up top.) For me, 10″ deep worked fine, but my daughter needed 11″ for a comfy fit.
Open the box flat, measure, and re-tape it so the width matches your clear bag—that’s what makes the costume look neat and proportional.

For a medium women’s frame, 18″ wide works perfectly, while 24″ wide is better for men. Keep the box about 8–9″ tall.
Once you’ve taped it back together, cut an 8″ square opening at the top for your head.
Then add 4″-wide armholes on each side, stopping about 2″ from the top edge so you’ll have plenty of arm movement without weakening the structure.
Wrap the finished box neatly in white paper, keeping the seam at the front where the logo will cover it later.
Now make the Tic Tacs.
Stretch each 260 size balloon a couple of times, inflate it fully with a pump, then deflate and re-inflate—that little trick helps them keep air longer.

Measure about 6″, twist and knot tightly, trim the excess, and use a glue dot to stick the tail down for a smooth finish.
Each balloon now looks like an oversized Tic Tac!
Fill the bag with 15–25 balloons, depending on how full you want it to look.

Assemble your Tic Tac Costume
Next, attach the clear bag to the box. Tape the bag to the inside front of the box so it hangs down evenly.

If the bag has a zipper top, tape one side to the box and zip it closed; otherwise, fold and tape the top inside the box.
Finally, print your chosen flavor logo and secure it so it starts on the box and spills onto the clear bag. Glue dots work well, but regular glue works too. I printed mine on 11×17 paper.

Step back, adjust the fullness if needed, and enjoy the fact that you now have a costume that looks straight off the candy shelf.

How fun are these, Nathalie!!!
Thank you for sharing your DIY Halloween costumes at Create, Bake, Grow & Gather this week. I’m delighted to be featuring at the party tomorrow and pinning too.
Thank you so much!
This might be a silly question, but instead of using a hand pump, I have an electric pump. Is that still okay to use? Or is there a reason you suggest hand pump? Thanks! 🙂
Of course you can try to use the electric pump. I didn’t because with the 260 balloons the hand pump just seemed more convenient.
This is adorable! I’m pinning to my Happy Halloween board for future costume use. Thansk so much for providing prontables
You’re so welcome. I wasn’t finding what I needed to create mine so I made it. Glad it’s helping.

This is so cute, thank you! Are the tic tac labels formatted to print 8×11, or larger/smaller? Looking forward to creating our costumes!
The prints are set up on 8.5″x11″ but I recommend enlarging them to print on 11″x17″. Any office store will know how to do that. Just download the pdf of the page you want.
