Step-by-Step Instructions to Make Your Chick Cupcakes
Start with any cupcake you loveβvanilla, carrot, lemon, or even my moist chocolate cake recipe if you’re feeling fancy. Or hey, grab a box mix from the grocery store and call it a day.
Color the Coconut Flakes
Color your coconut flakes yellow by putting them in a plastic baggy with a drop of yellow food coloring and a little water.
Close the bag and shake like a wild, crazy lady to color your coconut flakes. Take them out and lay them out to dry on a plate.
Decorating your cupcakes
Frost the top of your cupcake with yellow buttercream or a layer of bright yellow icingβwhatever youβve got on hand.
Gently dip the frosted edges into your dried yellow coconut flakes to give your chick that fluffy, feathery look.
Add four orange Tic-Tacs at the base for tiny feet (2 on each sides), and pop one more on top as the chickβs little crest.
Next, press half an orange jelly bean into the center of the cupcake for the beak (right in the chickβs body).
For the chickβs eyes, place two black jelly bean halves above the beakβspaced out just a bit for maximum cuteness.
Want to go the sleepy chick route? Use a black icing pen to draw on sweet little closed eyes instead!
There you have it! Cute and easy!
Easter Chick Cupcakes FAQs
Can I use frosting instead of icing?
Absolutely! Whether you whip up some homemade buttercream or go the Betty Crocker route from the grocery store, itβll work just fine. Vanilla buttercream or lemon frosting give a great spring flavor.
How far ahead can I make these adorable chick cupcakes?
You can bake and decorate them up to 2 days in advance and store them in the fridge. Just make sure to bring them to room temperature before serving.
What if I canβt find orange Tic-Tacs or jelly beans for the chickβs beak and feet?
You can use orange Starbursts cut into small pieces, fondant chicks accessories made with cookie cutters, or even orange slices for a fruity twist.
Can I make these without using coconut flakes?
Totally! If coconutβs not your jam, just use yellow buttercream and smooth it out or texture it with a small spoon. Your cute chick cupcakes will still shine without the feathers.
Do I have to shake the bag of coconut flakes like a wild crazy lady?
Yes. Itβs in the unwritten rulebook of Easter baking. Bonus points if you dance while doing it.
