How to make Strawberry Tiramisu

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.  Do not overwhip or it will deflate.
  2. Fold in the mascarpone cheese.  Set aside until ready to assemble.
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the strawberry jam, Grand Marnier (if you’re using it) and the water.  Whisk to combine until all clumps are gone.
  1. Using a 9×9 or similar sized baking dish, set out the unwrapped ladyfingers and the strawberry jam mixture.  Quickly dip a single ladyfinger at a time in the strawberry jam mixture, flipping to coat both sides.  Transfer to the baking dish.  Do not allow the ladyfinger to soak – a quick dip is sufficient.  Continue until the bottom of the pan is covered in one layer of the ladyfingers.

  1. Scoop out half of the mascarpone mixture and carefully spread over the ladyfingers.  Line up half of the sliced strawberries to create an even layer.
  1. Repeat another layer of the dipped ladyfingers.  If you’re using anything other than a 9×9 square baking dish, you may need more or less ladyfingers.  We needed 28 ladyfingers for a 9×9 pan.
  1. Top with the remaining mascarpone mixture and spread evenly.  At this point, cover with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  1. When ready to serve, top with the remaining sliced strawberries and a dusting of powdered sugar or strawberry powder for an extra pop of color and flavor.  Slice and serve.

Strawberry Tiramisu Faqs

What is a Classic Tiramisu?

A traditional Tiramisu is a popular Italian dessert made with layers of sponge cake cookies called ladyfingers (often soaked in coffee or liqueur), a creamy filling (typically made with mascarpone cream cheese), and cocoa powder. It is usually chilled before serving. Our strawberry version keeps some of the principle elements while changing the flavor profile.

Where can I find Ladyfingers?

Ladyfingers, (Yes, it’s one word, not “Lady Fingers”) also known as savoiardi, are sweet, sponge cake-like cookies that are commonly used in tiramisu. They can be found in the baking aisle of some grocery stores or at specialty food stores (look for an Italian deli). If you are unable to find them locally, you can also make your own ladyfingers at home (I’ve never tried) or just get them from Amazon.

What is Mascarpone Cheese?

Mascarpone cheese is a creamy, rich Italian cream cheese that originated in Italy. It is made from whole cream with a smooth and thick texture and high-fat content. Mascarpone cheese is commonly used in desserts such as Tiramisu, as well as savory dishes like pasta sauces. It has a slightly sweet and buttery flavor, making it a versatile ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes.

What can I Substitute for Mascarpone?

Mimicking the fat content, texture, and taste of mascarpone cheese can be tricky. Some say to can just combine cream cheese with heavy whipping cream to mask the tanginess of the cream cheese and add fat— about ¼ cup of cream for every 8 ounces of cream cheese and mix with the whisk attachment of your electric mixer until the texture is right.

Others say you’ll need some sour cream to help mimic the velvety consistency of the mascarpone. And propose this mix and other substitutes depending on your dietary requirements:

  • 1 ½ packets of cream cheese.
  • ¼ cup of heavy whipping cream.
  • ¼ cup of sour cream.

Can I Freeze this Strawberry Tiramisu?

No, the consistency is too delicate for freezing.

Can I Substitute other Liqueurs?

Yes, Grand Marnier is an orange liqueur, so your favorite fruity brandy will work well here. Or even Bailey’s strawberry liqueur to enhance the strawberry flavor

Can I Substitute With Other fruits?

You could give your tiramisu a fruity twist with different kinds of berries.

This easy strawberry tiramisu is a great make-ahead dessert and the perfect no-bake option for those who love the sweet, strawberry shortcake flavors in a classic Italian dessert.

So impress your friends and family with this delicious easy strawberry tiramisu recipe that is sure to become one of your favorite desserts.
