Many people may not think of preparing a punch recipe at Thanksgiving. The focus is often on appetizers, entrees, and those tasty Thanksgiving desserts, The drinks may be forgotten.
But I say a festive drink is vital. Here’s why.
- Number one is that it’s tasty. Imagine the warmth of cinnamon, the tang of fresh citrus, and the crispness of apples dancing on your taste buds. We honestly could stop right there.
- Number two is that most of these punch recipes are the perfect complement to Thanksgiving foods. Have you ever felt like the saltiness of the turkey and the gravy needed a sweeter counterpart than the cranberry sauce could offer? Tasty punch recipe to the rescue!
- Number three is getting to enjoy more classic fall flavors. Why do we think of family get-togethers when we smell sweet potato casserole? Because that sweet, fruity, nutmeg and cinnamon combination has been a part of so many of our wonderful holiday memories. These drink recipes draw out those flavors even more.
- Number four considers the logistics of the meal. If the turkey is taking longer than expected or the football game is running long, offer some festive drinks and light appetizers! This is especially important for groups who rotate holiday hosting duties each year. If you’re gunning for the title of “best holiday host,” you want to include a Thanksgiving drink option.
So, here’s my criteria for the perfect punch recipe for Thanksgiving:
- Incorporates a seasonal fruit or flavor
- Displays a festive fall color
- Makes you feel warm and cozy
If a recipe can hit all three criteria, it’s a true winner! I did include some drinks on this list that don’t quite tick every box. But I saw that they had the potential to be a holiday hit. And if your family doesn’t already have its hand’s-down, just-can’t-beat-it favorite Thanksgiving drink then I think this list holds your new drink of choice.
